Community Outreach

Strengthening Chicago’s Black and Brown Communities Through Outreach and Action

At Do For Self Community Development Corporation, community outreach isn’t a side effort. It’s the heart of everything we do. Since 1994, our work has focused on empowering Black and Brown communities across Chicago through intentional engagement, strategic partnerships, and culturally rooted programs. We collaborate with trusted community leaders, local officials, and iconic figures like Muhammad Ali to ensure our efforts directly reflect the needs, values, and voices of the people we serve. From job fairs to housing advocacy, our outreach builds power, pride, and pathways to progress.

Partnering With Our Own: Local Leadership for Local Chang

We work shoulder-to-shoulder with Black and Brown city officials, alderpersons, faith leaders, and grassroots organizers to deliver community-driven development. These partnerships aren’t symbolic. They result in real outcomes: safer streets, better jobs, and expanded educational access. Together, we amplify the voices of our neighborhoods and ensure every initiative is shaped by those who live here.

Uplifted by Legends: Celebrity Support With Purpose

Our community has been supported by voices that carry weight, none more impactful than Muhammad Ali, whose visit and encouragement left a lasting legacy on our mission. Do For Self continues to engage public figures who use their platforms to spotlight the strength and potential of Black and Brown Chicagoans. Their involvement isn’t for show. It opens doors, sparks investment, and reminds our youth that greatness lives right here in their own neighborhoods.

Workshops, Fairs, and Events for Real-Life Empowerment

We don’t just talk about empowerment. We teach it. Through community events focused on employment, financial literacy, wellness, housing rights, and youth development, we equip our neighbors with the tools they need to thrive. Whether it’s a resume clinic or a know-your-rights seminar, our events are designed to meet people where they are, provide practical support, and build long-term self-sufficiency.

Three Decades of Doing For Ourselves

For nearly 30 years, Do For Self has stood with and within Chicago’s Black and Brown communities. Our outreach isn’t charity; it’s solidarity. We’ve built a legacy rooted in cultural pride, self-determination, and generational uplift. Every partnership, event, and initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to collective advancement and economic justice.
